Bronchial Asthma Natural Treatment

Bronchial asthma, most commonly referred to as simply asthma, affects millions of Americans each year. The most common form of asthma (intrinsic asthma) is caused by pollutants in the air such as smoke or smoke and also by allergens like pollen, pet dander, dust mites and even cockroaches.

If you have asthma it’s very important to keep your home clean and free from as much dust as possible. Wash your sheets, blankets, pillows and curtain once a week to remove dust and dust mites. Keep furniture and knick knacks free of dust as well. While cleaning you may need to wear a mask to keep from inhaling dust and the chemicals you use for cleaning. If your asthma is severe you may want to consider hiring someone else to clean your home.

Since most asthma is caused by air borne allergens and pollutants it’s important to keep your air clean. Running your air conditioner will help filter out allergens. It will also help keep the humidity low in your home. High humidity can also be a factor for asthma sufferers. Make sure you clean or replace your air conditioning and furnace filters regularly.
There are also several herbal supplements you can take. Butterbur has been used to not only treat asthma but also to work along with your inhaler. Because butterbur is a member of the ragweed plant family you will want to avoid it if you are allergic to ragweed, marigold, daisy or chrysanthemum.

Ivy leaf is another popular natural asthma treatment. Research has shown this is especially helpful with children. The dosage for children is 25 drops of ivy leaf extract twice a day and 50 or more drops twice a day for adults.

Even though there are herbal and natural treatments available it’s important to have an inhaler handy, especially if your asthma is severe. Many natural treatments and herbal supplements can significantly cut down on the amount of times you need to use an inhaler but because severe asthma attacks can lead to death you should always be prepared.
