Cardiac Asthma Natural Treatment
|
|
Cardiac asthma isn’t really asthma. In true asthma your airways narrow and swell. This makes breathing difficult. The most common signs of a true asthma attack are coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.
The term cardiac asthma refers to the wheezing sound that is associated with heart failure. The symptoms range from mild to severe with severe symptoms requiring emergency medical attention.
True asthma is usually caused by air pollutants such as smoke or smog or by airborne allergens like pollen, mold, animal dander and dust mites. But it can also be caused by stress, certain medications, respiratory infections and even exercise.
In cardio asthma there is a buildup of fluid in the lungs or airways. This causes the same symptoms of true asthma – coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. However it’s extremely important to know the difference between the two. Using inhalers for cardiac asthma may actually worsen your symptoms and can cause dangerous heart rhythms.
If you have heart problems, or develop asthma later in life, it’s important to see your doctor and find out if your asthma symptoms are truly from asthma or if they are from heart failure. If they are from heart failure your doctor will likely prescribe medications to help your symptoms. Because cardiac asthma can be life threatening it’s not advisable to try natural treatments. If you have true asthma, see one of our other pages on asthma and natural cures.
