Non Alcohol Hand Sanitizer

Non Alcohol Hand Sanitizer

With cold and flu season upon us it’s more important than ever to keep our hands clean.  We are constantly coming in contact with germs and bacteria no matter where we are.  To keep their hands clean more and more people are using hand sanitizers.  They can easily be carried in your purse and many are small enough to fit in a pocket.  But many people are becoming concerned with the dangers of these cleansers.  What could be dangerous about hand sanitizers?

Most concerns come from their main ingredient - alcohol.  Most sanitizers contain 60 – 90 percent alcohol.  Many of them come in fruity scents and cute bottles making them a danger to children who might decide to drink them.  Cases of alcohol poisoning due to children drinking hand  sanitizers are reported each year.

Alcohol will also burn any cuts or scratches on the skin.  Skin that is already dry and cracked can become even worse.  Even if your skin isn’t dry it could become dry and cracked by over using sanitizers.

Many people who use hand sanitizers aren’t even using them properly.  The directions say to rub into your hands for 20-30 seconds.  Most people put a little on their hands and spread it around without rubbing for the correct amount of time.  This leads to people thinking that their hands are germ free even when they aren’t.

There are other alternatives to alcohol based sanitizers.  Several companies make a non-alcohol version and they claim it kills just as many germs as the alcohol based ones do.

The best way to rid your hands of germs and bacteria is still the good old way of washing with soap and water.  But in the many cases you’ll encounter when that’s just not possible,  hand sanitizer is the next best thing.  If you use them properly and buy a formula that is best for your skin you’ll be healthier and keep your family healthy too.
