Lemonade Cleansing Diet

There’s no doubt that we need to detox and cleanse our bodies once in a while – with all the junk we eat, it’s no surprise that toxins build up in our system and cause illnesses and disease. We abuse our digestive system by overloading it with rich and fatty food, and the best way to give it a rest and allow it to recuperate is through a detox procedure. One of the best known and most popular detox methods is the Lemonade Diet – true to its name, it involves subsisting on a diet of lemonade alone.
The Lemonade Diet typically lasts for 10 days, although veterans of the process go up to 40 days on it. It involves eating no solid food at all and drinking only 10 to 12 glasses of freshly prepared lemonade with Grade B maple syrup, non-fluoridated water, and cayenne pepper. Your day starts with a salt-water flush to clean your bowels and continues with glasses of lemonade; you can have one glass of laxative tea in the evening to meet your fiber requirements, and you’re allowed to drink water in between.
At the end of 10 days, it’s important to slowly ease your body into accepting solid food again. You’re advised to drink only fruit juices for 36 hours before moving on to raw vegetables and fruits, then on to soups and other easily digestible food items before eating solid food. While on the diet, it’s normal to feel symptoms like nausea, tiredness, insomnia, headaches and various others that are associated with the lack of food. If they become intolerable and cause pain and discomfort, see your doctor and break the diet slowly.
You will have to go off your regular medication if you want to try out the lemonade diet, so if you’re a diabetic or if you suffer from any other condition that requires you to stay on drugs, this is not the diet for you. Also, in order prevent your body from starving and becoming malnourished, you must drink at least 12 glasses of lemonade if you are to meet your daily dietary requirement of 1200 calories.
Before you start this diet, check with your doctor if your body will adapt to the “no solid food” routine – 10 days may seem like a relatively short period, but you need both mental resolve and physical tolerance to finish this diet, especially if it is your first time.
The Lemonade diet is a great way to detox your body and lose weight in the short term. Your long term health and body weight however depend on your ability to stick to a regular exercise routine and follow a healthy eating pattern and diet on a daily basis.
